Call and talk to the people at your local Area Agency on Aging office. Their number will be in the phone book or you can get it by using anywho.com or switchboard.com. The people at your Area Agency on Aging will have listings and contacts for low income senior housing in the community where you live. They are very helpful with all kinds of Senior information. If your mother lives in another city then look for the same information where she is at.Is anyone know how to apply for section 8 or any other low income home rental for my senior mother ?
In front of phone books is section of public numbers, Family services, Dept of aging, so on. Also in assisting her make copies of any thing important to keep, in case she loses or their is a flood, fire, whatever. When looking at list given talk to other residents if possible. *mamatx
Look under apartments in the paper, if they are subsidized it will tell you. That is what you want, HUD sub's apartments. I live in one, it is perfect for one person. Very secure, nice grounds, interior halls are heated in the winter and have AC in the summer a common area with a large TV and microwave, coffee pot etc. Tables and couches. Must have a key or door code to enter. Inner coms in the apts. and panic cords in the bedroom and bath for emergency assistance. Sprinklers for fires and they are well insulated and quiet and all people that are disabled or over 62 and living on SS or SSI. There is no in home care if she needs that you will have to arrange for it. Hope that helps--or look up HUD on your computer and ask for ones in your area. I had to move away from the big city to a smaller town as the wait in the city or close was over a year.
As the other answers have said, you'll need to contact your local agencies for the procedures to apply.

You could try dialing 2-1-1, which is a telephone referral line in many US communities. Or you can do a search at either of these websites:

Look in your local phonebook for the Metrepolitan office. It will probably be under your county's name first.Like if your county is logan, then I would look under Logan Co. Metropolitan If this doesn't help then call any city office and they will give you the number you need. Good luck and I'm sorry for the spelling today. I'm a little under the weather and just can't seem to have the energy to re-read and correct. I'm sure there's a lot of mistakes.Best of luck to your and your Mom. God Bless
In this area you contact the local ( city) housing authority, but it is different for different locales. A Senior Center or even your local library can probably help you---also look on the Internet. Good luck! With a lot of red tape, good help IS available.
Find the phone number

of the local courthouse

and whoever answers -

just ask them what the

number of the low income

housing place is - or at

least what the name of it is.

They will be glad to help you.
Start at your Countys Department of Social Services. They will see if your Mother qualifies. There are a bunch of hoops to jump through, but take my advice and start there.
Your county assistance office should have the information.Ask them about H.U.D.
you would have to contact your local family services department.
Call your local Council on aging or human resource and they will have numbers for you...
